Vietnam E-Visa – Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers about the Vietnam E-Visa process, documents, validity and important rules before you apply online.

1. What is a Vietnam E-Visa?
A Vietnam E-Visa is an electronically issued visa that allows eligible foreign travelers to enter Vietnam for tourism, business or short visits. The entire process is completed online and you receive the visa approval by email.
2. Who can apply for a Vietnam E-Visa?
Citizens of many countries, including Indian passport holders, are eligible to apply for a Vietnam E-Visa. Eligibility depends on the current Vietnam immigration rules, so always check the latest list of eligible nationalities before applying.
3. How long does the Vietnam E-Visa take to process?
Standard processing time is usually 3–5 working days. However, it can be longer during peak travel seasons, public holidays or if additional verification is required by Vietnam Immigration.
4. What documents do I need to apply online?
Typically, you will need:
  • A valid passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • A clear passport-size photograph (as per Vietnam photo rules)
  • A scanned copy of your passport information page
  • Your intended arrival port, travel dates and purpose of visit
  • A valid debit/credit card or payment method for the visa fee
Exact requirements can change, so please follow the latest checklist at the time of application.
5. How long is the Vietnam E-Visa valid for?
In most cases, the Vietnam E-Visa is valid for up to 30 days with single-entry permission. Any extension, longer stay or multiple-entry option depends on the latest visa policy and must be confirmed in advance.
6. Can I extend my Vietnam E-Visa once I am in Vietnam?
Visa extensions may be possible through local immigration authorities or authorised agents in Vietnam. Approval, fees and processing time are not guaranteed and depend on current rules at the time you apply for the extension.
7. Is the Vietnam E-Visa fee refundable if my application is refused?
No. Once paid, Vietnam E-Visa fees are non-refundable, regardless of the final decision. Service charges from your travel/visa consultant are also typically non-refundable.
8. At which airports can I use my Vietnam E-Visa?
Vietnam E-Visas are accepted at several international airports and land/sea border points, such as Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang and other approved checkpoints. Make sure the arrival port on your E-Visa matches your actual entry point.
9. Do I need to carry a printed copy of my E-Visa?
Yes, you should print your approved Vietnam E-Visa and keep it with your passport. Immigration officers normally ask to see the printed copy when you arrive in Vietnam.
10. Does an approved E-Visa guarantee my entry into Vietnam?
No. An approved E-Visa allows you to travel to Vietnam, but final entry is always at the discretion of the immigration officer at the border. You must also meet all other entry conditions on arrival.
11. Can I correct mistakes after submitting my E-Visa application?
Once submitted, most details cannot be edited. If you notice incorrect information after submission, you will usually need to submit a new application with the correct details and pay the fee again.
12. When should I apply for my Vietnam E-Visa?
It is recommended to apply at least 7–10 days before your planned travel date. This gives enough time for processing and for you to correct any issues, if needed.
